Is Your Version of Rest Holding You Back?
Most people think of vacation as a time to turn off the alarm clock—and maybe the disciplined morning routine that comes along with it.
But I can’t afford that.
Ten years ago, I left the military with a lower back injury and PTSD. Today, if I skip physical training for just a few days, I feel it. My back tightens with shocking pain. My sleep suffers. And the nightmares come back - something that I don't ever want to have to deal with again.
I’ve learned the hard way that rest doesn’t always mean doing nothing. Sometimes, rest means doing the right things—consistently.
Move every day.
Eat clean, whole foods.
Sleep like it’s your job.
It’s not complicated. But it’s not easy either. The things that make you more disciplined, your routine and normal habits, are things you must work at every day. Ask yourself: are you structuring your schedule to facilitate your commitment to your discipline habits?
The world tells us that physical discipline is about vanity. The Steady Leader knows better. Physical discipline is about being ready. When chaos comes—and it always does—your team needs you strong, calm, and clear.
That’s why I teach that leaders must be combat ready—mentally strong, spiritually centered, and physically capable. Physical health is the anchor that holds it all together. When your body breaks down, your clarity, your confidence, and your leadership begin to suffer, as well.
Here’s your Steady Leader Challenge for your day ahead:
30 Minutes of Movement: Walk, stretch, lift—just move.
One Clean Meal: Choose nourishment over convenience.
Power Down Early: Treat your sleep like a sacred appointment.
Start with the body—because discipline there spreads everywhere.
Stay steady.
