Why the Strongest Leaders Love Differently

This week I’ve been reflecting on the idea of love—especially how it shapes us as leaders.

Here’s something I wrote down as a reminder to myself:

People spend their whole life looking for perfect love.
Some think they’ve found it in another person—but are often let down.
Why? Because people are flawed. Just like you. Just like me.

Here’s the shift:
Instead of chasing perfect love from others, start with the right flow:

  1. God’s Love – perfect, unconditional, and unshakable.

  2. Love for Yourself – rooted in identity, not ego.

  3. Love for Others – grace-filled, not needy.

When you start with God, your deepest need for love is already met.
You’re not begging for it—you’re overflowing with it.

When you love yourself from that place, you lead with calm, confidence, and clarity.
And when you turn your love toward others, you’re finally able to love them for who they truly are—not for how well they meet your expectations.

This is where mercy and grace come from.
This is how you create extraordinary relationships.
And this is the root of steady leadership.

Try this today:

  • Start your day by receiving God’s love. (Even just observing five quiet minutes makes a difference.)

  • Speak kindly to yourself. No one grows from shame.

  • Extend grace to someone who doesn’t “deserve” it.

Because here is the truth: you don’t need others to love you perfectly to live with love. That’s already been settled at the Cross. So, lead with mercy. Love with confidence. And stay steady.
