Leadership Isn’t About Being Right

One of the hardest things for leaders to do is to let go of being “right.”

Arguments within teams rarely produce winners. Someone may walk away feeling they’ve proven their point, but often at the cost of discouragement, damaged trust, and a weakened culture. The truth is: no one wins when the focus is on saving face.

A steady leader approaches these moments differently. They wipe the slate clean, set aside ego, and return to the mindset of team-first. They challenge assumptions and ideas—but never people. They don’t keep score. They focus on bringing out the best in others.

This requires a servant’s heart; a posture that says:

– I will freely give grace to others.

– I will choose love over ego.

– I will share knowledge generously.

– I will care about my team’s success more than my own recognition.

Winston Churchill put it simply:

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

Steady Leader Challenge

– Start each day by asking: How can I serve my team today?

– In your next conflict, refuse to fight for who’s right. Fight for the team instead.

– Give something today that costs you nothing but means everything to someone else: your attention, your encouragement, or your belief in them.

Profit matters, but not at the expense of love. The more we lead with service, the more influence we gain. And the more influence we have, the greater our ability to point others toward what truly matters.
